Urban Vision Questing

The concept evolved from Aliah's Column Urban Vision Questing
in the Austin Monthly: Mike's Feedback
. And several articles in the
Austin Monthly Newpaper: Austin Daze on this theme of being an artist
whose an activist in today's world.

Urban Vision Questing
takes a look at "The Tao" of Urban living.

People of all ages - throughout the ages
have gone questing for understanding.
Taking a "walkabout'" is common in Aboriginal life - and going on a "vision quest" is a big part of Native American traditions
who also understand the need
for a time of healing through a journey.

Now modern culture has many books, movies, and TV to shows about those who go on amazing travels. Yet why one travels and what one seeks on the path makes for a very different journey -
and very different kinds of heroes.
And we all need hero's to model
and inspire us.

As we appreciate the wisdom
gained in a journey to see beyond
what one knows we begin to see.
how we walk the path - makes the journey what it becomes.

Seeing "Victims" & "Bullies" both in ourselves and in our lives - in symbols everywhere...
at some point one asks:

Is it possible to be both gentle and strong?
&
What does that look like?

There are many real heroes - those who are peaceful civil rights heroes like Gandhi,
& Martin Luther King.

Now modern culture has many books, movies, and TV shows that offer us many living and fictional Heroes who are both gentle & strong
yet still it is rare - these days.

One such hero is
Kwai Chang Caine
-
from the old Kung Fu TV Series -
who was both strong and gentle
and leads others to find the hero
within themselves.

Watching Kung Fu
one may ponder...

What would it have been like
to have been raised
by Enlightened Monks?

More than anything -
we are amazed at his
knowing of when it is time
to show force
and yet again - it is in how and why
he does it that teaches us "The Tao".

This is the quest of the
Urban Dweller on the path -
finding peace in the rush of our
daily shuffle.

How to enjoy the ride and not get caught up in
the traffic jams of life -
or really any particular outcome?

We all have inner knowing that understands how all things keep
changing - all that is certain
is that patience brings
good things eventually.
It seems that as we appreciate everything that happens as gifts of
opportunity to learn and continually
seek a wisdom that
teaches us through each transition.
This understanding is what reveals
the message in all that happens.

The "Tao" teaches that life
is continual and any outcome
is never done -
all that ends is a beginning -
and that every no is a yes
somewhere else.

As we focus on the many wonders
and miracles of life
we are then given more choices.

Watching how the fool becomes the sage - as it is revealed in a Hero's Journey that begins unfolding when the victim & bully within becomes the hero of their own lives as they learn
The Art of Disarming The Bully both within and around us.
Our gratitude makes time become elastic and we live in Dreamtime -
as a pilgrim on the path:
Urban Vision Questing.
